Santa Holds Meetings to Plan for Christmas

Santa is holding meetings today to plan for Christmas 2021. Everything from Santa’s sleigh to toy production is on the table for discussion.

Last Christmas was very successful. We tried a lot of new things and Santa made it around the world in good time. In all, Santa praised our efforts.

But like all things we know we can do even better. That “doing better” is our theme, kind of, for Christmas 2021. We have much to do and little time to do it. So we’re done enjoying our little break and we’re soon to get down to work.

It all begins with a little meeting in Santa’s office.

In some jobs they call this a “performance review”. Santa cannot stand to call it that. But we cannot help but feel that way. As elves we all want to work for Santa and to do our jobs well. Evaluating our performance after each Christmas is tough because we sometimes can see better the mistakes we made. Nobody, not even elves, like to admit that we did not do everything right.

Santa says it is always important to study what went right, what went wrong and what we can do better. I had this conversation with him about my department (Public Relations) the other day. Santa was very kind to me.

Last year, he said, was a very unusual and challenging year for nearly everyone around the world. All the extra work we did was recognized and greatly appreciated. But as we discussed the year ahead it is clear there are many things we can do better. We talked about all those things: bringing you more news, finding new ways to answer your questions, holding more chats, posting more pictures and things like that.

After our meetings as departments this weekend I will meet with my teams on Monday. The news writers, the radio announcers, the social media elves, and all the workers of our department whose job it is to help the public in some way. We will meet with them all and get their ideas.

Then we will put those ideas down on the calendar and begin to roll them out.

What will change? What will be different? What can we do that is new? How can you add your voice to it all?

Well, think about this. It is my tradition to post something on the 24th of every month. We call that “Rudolph Day”. Don’t ask me why we do that because Rudolph actually has nothing to do with it. It’s just that Christmas Eve falls on the 24th of December so we try to remember the 24th every month as it rolls around.

On the 24th of every month we will have a Rudolph Day chat in the North Pole Chat Room. The first one, to be held on January 24th, is already on the North Pole Chat calendar. It will feature me, Elf Ernest. I want to chat with you about Santa Update and the things you want to see us do for next Christmas. I want to hear all of your ideas. I want to listen to your suggestions on how we can make the experience of this website better for you.

I may be ready at that time to share some new things with you — or maybe not. We will have some new things decided by then perhaps. We will still hold many of our traditional events – Christmas in July, for example — but we are hoping for new things to happen this year as well.
