45 Weeks Until Christmas

45 weeks to Christmas now, guys, and guess what? Valentine’s Day is coming up!

Some of you have written to the North Pole to ask about how Valentine’s Day happens here. I can tell you that it is only slightly different.

You see, at the very heart of it (haha), elves are very shy people.

Yes, people here fall in love and get married and all that stuff here just like anyone else. But Valentine’s Day is different because elves are kinda of shy about that stuff.

I know in some places some people make a big show of sending flowers or giving nice little personal gifts but here at the North Pole elves do not really do that. In fact, they will do special things but it is almost always in secret.

For example, I went to a training class being held in the Wrapping Department the other day. It was about making bows and I was really interested in going to it.

Well, it seems a lot of other elves wanted to do it too, including this guy name Buster. Now, I knew Buster from the reindeer barn because that’s where he works and he knows my girl, Trixie, and how much I like to visit her. Anyway, Buster didn’t know anyone else in the class so he sat next to me and we started talking about reindeer while we waited for the class to begin.

Just before the class started in walked a guy with a nice present tied up with a big heart shaped balloon. Everyone, even me, thought he was showing something having to do with the class but no, he was there to deliver a valentine to Buster.

His wife sent it. I didn’t know he was married and, of course, nobody else there even knew Buster. I laughed out loud when the guy delivered it to Buster because he turned all red. He’s one shy elf.

Well, because I laughed and because Buster turned red, everyone in the class thought we were a couple and they started to applaud and say things like “Aww!”, and stuff like that.

Then I turned red, because they clearly were misunderstanding the whole thing. I was just sitting there next to Buster and we were talking when all this happened.

When Buster figured out this was going on he turned even MORE red and said that maybe we should sit in different places in the room.

Poor guy. That simple, sweet little Valentine embarrassed him in front of a room full of people he didn’t know.

I had to ask him what he planned to give his wife for Valentine’s Day and he honestly said, “I don’t know but I do know I won’t send it to her work!”.

That, in a nutshell, is what Valentine’s Day is all about at the North Pole.

It is not a big holiday. I think there is a little Valentine’s Party over at the community center for the Senior Elves. Mrs. Claus told me about it and asked if I would come and help serve cookies. So that’s my plan.

I wouldn’t mind it if someone embarrassed me at work with flowers or a box of chocolates. But I’m not your usual elf.

I will let you know if it happens.
