Halloween is always a big event at the North Pole and for Santa’s elves designing and appearing in costume is a major event.

You see, a contest is held annually for the best Halloween costume. Elves go all out for it. Winning the contest is very important for an elf. It allows him or her to showcase growing creative skills. The costume contest is an event ideally suited for showing how creative an elf can be.

In the radio news report above Elf Crash Murphy explains what elves are doing right now in these days before Halloween. Most go into hiding, trying to create and keep secret a costume they will not reveal until it is Halloween party time.

The Halloween party is a huge event and nearly every elf comes to it. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also come, in costume, although they do not participate in the costume contest. They are the hosts of the party.

What else happens at the North Pole Halloween party?

Well, we report on it every year. There is a lot of music and dancing and games. We bob for apples, we make caramel apples and there are Halloween themed games galore. One favorite game is called Ghost Hide-and-Seek, a game where finding an invisible elf is the object.

The Research and Development Department at the North Pole long ago invented a paint that can make a person invisible. But they have never found a good use for the paint, at least as it relates to Santa and Christmas. But it is a very popular thing at the Halloween Party for this game. One lucky elf gets painted with this stuff and it makes it impossible to see him or her. So that elf gets to “hide” in plain sight while everyone else at the party tries to find him.

It’s usually a hilarious thing. Water will take the paint off the elf so squirt guns are used by most to try to “expose” the invisible elf. Most of them elves end up getting each other wet in their pursuit of the invisible elf. It’s great fun.

But honestly, there are two events that really make the North Pole Halloween Party special – the Costume Contest and the Annual Food Fight.

We’ll tell you all about it next week.

Thank you, and Happy Halloween Elf Harold! I’m very curious about Halloween at the North Pole too. Is it possible you could tell us what costume Santa, Mrs. Claus, Elves Frank, Crash, and you wore later? If I were there I wouldn’t be anyone but perform like a robot because nobody recognizes me, lol! Or I would be a reindeer. XD I’m so glad the test pilots and reindeer returned and have a break there. I’m also looking forward to hearing about the Halloween contest later. XD
