Located within each delivery sector is a Regional Tracking Center – a local, smaller version of North Pole Flight Command.
Right after Christmas each year a search begins for the next location of a Regional Tracking Center. They need a place where a facility can be built with a staff of hundreds of elves, thousands of computers, many large wall-mounted screens and all the modern communications equipment you can imagine.
Here are where the Regional Tracking Centers are for this Christmas:
Serving Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific, Japan and Island Nations of the Sea
Kiribati is a small, isolated and sparsely populated Pacific island. This is the second time this island has housed a Regional Tracking Center for Sector 1. The location offers fantastic summer weather, great food, warm hospitality and strategic service ideals for the island nations of the sea it serves in tracking Santa.
Serving Asia and the Middle East
Taiwan is a high-tech choice location for the Regional Tracking Center for the geologically largest sector on the map. It has taken many years to put up this location. It offers Sector 2 outstanding Internet connectivity, great centralized tracking for the mass populations of China, India and South East Asia, fantastic seafood, and a growing base of tracker elves.
Serving Europe and Africa
Sint-Niklaas, Belgium – named for Santa himself – hosts the Regional Tracking Center for Sector 3, back in Europe this year. This very traditional location is snowy and filled with Christmas culture. It is also central to Europe and is thus ideally located to support Santa’s journey to one of his legendary haunts. This sector is compressed into just a relative few time zones, so Santa’s ride here goes by very fast.
Serving Greenland, the Atlantic and South America
The beach-side Regional Tracking Center in Costa Rica is a far cry from the frozen tundra of Greenland but that’s the diversity you’ll find in Sector 4 – from the Antarctic in the south to the Arctic circle in the North this Regional Tracking Center has to manage many different kinds of flight situations. Santa is very popular in South America and has many believers on the seas themselves he has to deliver to.
Sector 5 – Barra de Navidad, Mexico
Serving Central and North America
For the first time in history the Regional Tracking Center for Sector 5 is hosted by Mexico. They have wanted a Regional Tracking Center for decades. The location is perfectly central to all of North and Central America. The warm December forecast bodes well for round-the-clock operation for the greatest concentration of believers in Santa in the world. Santa is challenged to deliver here and has to move faster than in any other sector. The size of the facility, the expertise of the elf staff, and the unfettered communication needed with North Pole Flight Command and service of the North Pole Navy on two oceans makes this sector unlike any other.
