Jingle Bells Contest Underway

Jingle Bells ContestHappy Sunday, all!

Christmas in July is a break from the routine here at the North Pole. There just isn’t a lot of work getting done this week.

Yes, the workshop is open and elves are showing up for work. But they are all coming in wearing shorts and ball caps – so you know things are not all that serious (elves usually have to wear their uniforms to work).

Christmas in July is a time of contests and one of the favorite contests is the Jingle Bells Singing Contest.

This is an old Christmas-in-July tradition at the North Pole.

No, it’s not about who can sing Jingle Bells the loudest – or even who can sing it the best. It is about who can sing it the LONGEST.

Right now we’re in the middle of the contest. It’s been going on now since yesterday morning.

It started out with about 700 elves singing with gusto.

But most folks fall out after the first few hours of singing Jingle Bells.

I’m looking at the Jingle-Cam right now and I see about 15 elves left in the contest, and they’ve been singing Jingle Bells now for almost two full days.

The record is 4 days, 18 hours, 7 minutes and 13 seconds held by Elf Abner, of the reindeer department here at the North Pole. He set that record 27 years ago and no one has gotten close to it. Last year the winner went more than three days, so that was pretty good.

I’ll let you know who wins.
