19 Weeks Until Christmas
Hello, friends! There are just 19 weeks until Christmas. That is not very long at all!
The big wedding is barely more than two weeks away. Why am I nervous?
This is silly. I’m not the one getting married.
I cannot believe how much attention this thing is getting. Everywhere I go here at the North Pole people stop me to ask about it. They tell me “only so many days until the big day!” – like it’s the countdown to Santa’s launch.
Maybe that is why The Mighty Mick took off to work the test flights. Maybe he just didn’t want to hear about it.
I’m told that Mick and Trixie are not seeing a lot of each other, even though both are working the test flights.
There are several sleighs up there and they fly at different times. There are different assignments for different reindeer. So they don’t get to see each other as much as I guess we all think.
Trixie is going to fly home this weekend. She’s got a fitting for her headdress, which I’m told is now ready. I’ll try to get pictures, if she will let me (she’s very shy).
I also bumped into Santa yesterday at North Pole Flight Command. That was a nice surprise. He was so very kind to me. He asked me how I was doing and if there was something he could do to help me.
Yes, to answer your many questions about this, both Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the wedding. In fact, Santa is going to officiate the wedding. He graciously said he would be happy to do that.
I normally do not get to see Santa very often. In fact, if he were not at Flight Command so much this year I likely would not see him at all. Normally he’s either in his office or at the Workshop. But this year is different. He’s all about the sleigh. So he is in a place where I spend a lot of time. I literally ran into him, which is always the best way to see him.
Santa did mention one thing to me that I’m thinking about. He told me that a lot of reindeer are now here at the North Pole and that we all know they are here for the wedding.
Santa said this wedding is a big event for the reindeer and that we have an important opportunity here to teach some of the younger reindeer some important things.
That comment kind of stressed me out a little bit. Santa, being the kind and observant man that he is, immediately read my reaction and very quickly apologized.
“I’m sorry,” he said. “You are doing just great. I mean that I have an opportunity to show the other reindeer that Trixie and the Mick are doing a good thing. And I will say that.”
The wedding should not be stressing me out – at all. I just want Trixie to be happy. I want her big day to be for her, that shouldn’t be too hard, right?
I guess I’m nervous because I know everything changes in a couple of weeks. Trixie has been such a big part of my life since coming to the North Pole and I don’t know how things will be different or if they will be the same at all.
People ask me if Trixie is going to keep working as one of Santa’s reindeer.
The answer is “I don’t know”.
I mean, if she doesn’t stay working, what does that mean? Why would she quit just because she’s married? Nobody is asking of The Mick is going to keep working. Why does anyone think it is their business if Trixie decides to keep working as a test flight reindeer or not?
I guess, if Trixie’s role changes, I’ll change with it. Ultimately, it’s her decision.
I’m proud of her. She’s been a real blessing in my life, ever since she was the cutest little newborn reindeer you’ve ever seen.
She learned to fly, she trained to an elite level and she made the test flight squad of Santa’s team as a three year old. She has competed at a high level in the Reindeer Games. Both she and The Mick have made the backup squad on Christmas Eve.
That’s a lot for any reindeer.
Why would she walk away from all that? And if she does decide to quit, why would that be a bad thing?
I really do not know what she is going to do and THAT makes me nervous.
Trixie is very good friends with Vixen. In fact, I would say Vixen is her hero. Vixen is a legendary reindeer and you know some of her stories.
I’ve noticed recently that Vixen has been very gentle with me. Vixen has a very feisty personality and she’s known for being opinionated. She has always been nice but there’s something about Vixen that has been rather edgy. Except recently.
Vixen is a mama reindeer. She’s had babies. Not many people know that about her. But she is married and has a family of reindeer she is very proud of.
I think Vixen knows what Trixie is going to do. I think, in their reindeer way, they have talked about it. I think Vixen knows and I think that is why I feel a different kind of sympathy from her right now.
Once this is over, I’m definitely going to talk to Vixen about all this. I think she is wise. I’m so glad Trixie is close to her.
I will be fine. Changes are coming and I need to be good with it.
And I am.
Just nervous.
