Elf Bernard Explains the Crisis in Santa's Workshop

Elf Bernard, head elf in Santa’s workshop, in a rare appearance in North Pole Chat, took believers’ questions and explained why the workshop is so behind this year.

Elf Bernard also dropped hints that tracker elves this year might experience something different, due in part to the crisis in Santa’s workshop.

A believer also posted something written about Elf Bernard on the Internet that was untrue. Elf Bernard himself did not address it but several other chat visitors and believers tried their best to explain the truth about Elf Bernard and what he does.

Here is that conversation:

Elf Frank Myrrh	Folks, just as we did with Elf Hugo, I’m going to introduce Bernard and ask him a few questions then I will open it up for your questions, okay?

Elf Frank Myrrh	Elf Bernard is the head elf in Santa’s workshop, a position he has held for decades.

Elf Frank Myrrh	It is his job to oversee gift production.
Elf Frank Myrrh	Some think that is just toys, but it’s not. Anything Santa gives anyone for Christmas goes through Elf Bernard and Santa’s workshop.
Elf Frank Myrrh	So he’s a pretty important Elf.
Elf Frank Myrrh	I’ve personally known Elf Bernard for 40 years.
Elf Frank Myrrh	He’s not like you imagine. He’s a very, very important elf.
Elf Frank Myrrh	It is a rare opportunity to have him in chat today.
Elf Frank Myrrh	His purpose today is to talk about the crisis in Santa’s workshop.
Elf Frank Myrrh	How we got here and how it is going. First of all, Bernard, how far behind in Santa’s workshop as of today?
Elf Bernard	We are approximately 75 days behind.
Elf Frank Myrrh	That sounds impossible. What happens if everything is not done by the time Santa takes off?
Elf Bernard	Well, we keep working.
Elf Frank Myrrh	Does that mean Santa will be too late in delivering Christmas?
Elf Bernard	I can’t accurately answer that.
Elf Frank Myrrh	Ok. How did this happen?
Elf Bernard	As you can imagine, it takes a lot of materials to make the things that Santa delivers.
Elf Bernard	We just didn’t get enough stuff early enough this year to be on schedule.
Elf Frank Myrrh	How soon did you know we were in trouble with that?
Elf Bernard	I knew in January, when Santa and I started talking about it.
Elf Frank Myrrh	Is it hard to get the “stuff” needed to make what Santa delivers…to the North Pole?
Elf Bernard	Not usually, no. But this year it has been a challenge.
Elf Frank Myrrh	Is there a reason for that?
Elf Bernard	Well, it’s not US. It’s the world. We get things from all over the world. And the world has had a hard time selling to us this year.
Elf Frank Myrrh	Ok, thank you for that explanation Bernard.
Elf Frank Myrrh	I know it’s rare to get Bernard here.
Elf Frank Myrrh	So let’s ask him your questions.

Jayden01345D	Um I want to know about how is everything going at the north pole and is a lot of elves still working on gifts?
Elf Frank Myrrh	Bernard, has the workshop been expanded to handle more production?
Dillearl	Hey elf Bernard
Elf Bernard	Yes, we have taken over the woodshop at North Pole High School and have elves working there around the clock.
Elf Bernard	We also have taken over North Pole Metal Works and are using both their shop and their staff
Elf Bernard	In fact, we have workshop production going on in four outside facilities at the North Pole this year. That’s historic.
Elf Ulan	(I have a question)
Dillearl	I was just wondering if Santa Claus and Mrs Claus is coming to are party this year on the 17th of December
Elf Frank Myrrh	And to Jayden’s question, how many new elves do we have doing this work?
Elf Frank Myrrh	Go ahead, Elf Ulan
Elf Ulan	Thank you, Elf Frank!
Elf Bernard	I don’t have an accurate head count because it changes by the day
Elf Bernard	I am guessing we have roughly 5000 more elves doing workshop work than normal

Elf Ulan	Elf Bernard, is it the first time being behind the schedule?
Elf Bernard	It really is. But I am grateful to have them. The next 44 days or so are going to be something.

Elf Bernard	It happens a little bit every year.
Elf Bernard	Our goal is to be done and closed down before Santa takes off
Elf Bernard	But every year we seem to be working a few hours after he leaves.

Elf Bernard	This year is very different than that because we are days behind.

Elf Bernard	It is the latest I can ever remember being behind like this.

Elf Bernard	I don’t want to discourage anyone. But this is a serious crisis.
Elf Bernard	Elf Sugar Cookie, Santa and I have discussed this question a great deal.

Elf Shine	So my question for Elf Bernard is, what would you want any believers to understand about the crisis in the Santa’s workshop?
ElfLubert	Not an official source, as elf Bernard just said

Elf Bernard	We have to tell the truth, first and foremost.
Elf Bernard	Normally when we have problems we don’t talk about them.
Elf Bernard	But normal every day problems don’t need to be talked about
Elf Bernard	We work through them and things work out
Elf Bernard	But the current crisis is not a normal problem.
Elf Bernard	So you will continue to hear Elf Frank and his news buddies continue to share news of this significant problem

Elf Bernard	Well, the weather. That’s why there’s a weather department. Santa works with those guys, I don’t

ElfLubert	Is there anything we can do as tracker elfs, Or, in my case, as a junior tracker elf, to help with the crisis?
Elf Bernard	Yes, ElfLubert. Another excellent question.

Elf Shine	Yeah can tracker elves in genral
Elf Bernard	And the topic of tracker elves keeps coming up
Elf Bernard	I don’t understand what you elves do exactly
Elf Bernard	But they are talking about using you a little different this year

Elf Bernard	But a lot of it depends on last minute things like where we are at as a workshop, whether Santa launches when planned, even local things in each sector
Elf Bernard	So I can’t answer HOW it will be different. I would just say BE READY
