Elf Crash Visits North Pole Chat

Elf Crash Murphy was the guest in North Pole Chat and he talked a little bit about how tracking Santa for Santa might be different this year. He also had some very interesting things to say about Santa….and your dog.

ElliottACDC	Do you know any of the elf on a shelf elves?
Elf Ulan	Wow, that’ll be awesome
Elf Ernest	But he is also familiar to folks for his work on North Pole Radio News and the North Pole Podcast
Elf Ernest	No, Elliott. Elf on the Shelf is not part of us.
Elf Ernest	Crash and I will open the chat with a brief discussion and then we will let you ask him questions.

Elf Ernest	Crash, first question, do you come to North Pole Chat today with a message?
Crash Murphy	Well, I’m not sure how to answer that. These are all pretty experienced elves.
Crash Murphy	Santa thinks I need to talk to new elves. But I’m not sure if we have any new elves here.
Elf Ernest	Maybe we will have some join later. Do you want to then take questions?
Crash Murphy	Yes, let’s do that.
Elf Ernest	Ok, guys. One at a time. Who wants to ask Crash a question?
Elf Ernest	Crash, I have a number of questions that have come in via SantaUpdate.com
Elf Ernest	The most common question being asked is how tracking Santa for Santa will be different this year?
Crash Murphy	Yes, that’s a pretty big question and we’re all trying to answer it.
Crash Murphy	The answer is, honestly, I DON”T KNOW
Elf Shine	Hi
Crash Murphy	Santa is going to be launching under very different conditions this year
Crash Murphy	It is kind of historic, because it’s never been like this before
Elf Ernest	Crash, there are many people voicing concerns that Santa won’t get to everyone this year. Is that realistic?
Crash Murphy	I don’t think so, no.
Elf Ernest	So are you going to guarantee Santa is going to visit everyone?
Crash Murphy	No. I can’t say that. Only Santa could say something like that.
Elf Ernest	Can you tell us how tracking Santa for Santa will be different this year?
Crash Murphy	Yes, it is basically going to be very last minute.
Crash Murphy	I mean, we’re doing our usual stuff, and we need to do that.
Crash Murphy	But depending on the workshop and what happens there the days of December 23rd and December 24th could look really different
Crash Murphy	Flight Command might ask us for different things
Crash Murphy	Santa might be earlier or later in different parts of the world.
Crash Murphy	I guess the easiest way to describe it is that things will be less predictable this year for those tracking Santa for Santa.
Elf Ernest	Is there anyone at the North Pole or at Flight command who can speak to how else it might be different?
Elf Ulan	(ELf Ernest, I have a question to Elf Crash)
Crash Murphy	Well, Elf Ernest, you’re one of those. The News Department, which falls under you, has a lot more active reporters lined up. Now why is that?
Elf Ernest	Hahaha – this is your chat, Crash.
Elf Ernest	We’re gearing up in the news department because we feel things are going to be different too. But we really don’t know what we’re gearing up for.
Elf Ernest	Go ahead, Elf Ulan
Elf Ulan	Thank you, Elf Ernest!
Elf Ulan	Elf Crash, so what should we, tracker elves for Santa do except sending reports?
Crash Murphy	That is exactly what everyone is feeling.
Elf Ernest	Do you think trackers will be up later this year?
Crash Murphy	I do. Especially in Sectors 4 and 5.
Elf Ernest	By saying that, do you think Santa will be late to those Sectors?
ElliottACDC	WHAT HELP
Crash Murphy	No. Santa’s not going to be late.
Crash Murphy	Santa just doesn’t DO late.
Crash Murphy	But depending on what the workshop does Santa may deliver later than usual.
Elf Ernest	What do you need, ElliottACDC?

Elf NotJack	What does “later” mean?
Elf Shine	Elf Ernest, can I ask Elf crash
ElliottACDC	WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP
Elf Ernest	Yes, Elf Shine, please proceed.
Crash Murphy	Later I think means that Santa could deliver in the later hours – like 3am. Customarily he likes to get in around midnight or earlier.
Crash Murphy	ElliottACDC, if you want to help you need to sign up to track Santa for Santa.

Elf Ernest	How do MORE trackers help?
Crash Murphy	Elliott? What’s you’re elf name?
Elf Shine	Â So elf crash will Santa to secortor between 10 pm on 23 Dec and 2 am 24?
Crash Murphy	More trackers are needed to help Santa see what’s going on in an area before he gets there.
ElliottACDC	ELLIOTT ACDC On santa tracker
Crash Murphy	Elf Shine, Santa will launch late on December 23rd, but won’t deliver anywhere on that date.
Crash Murphy	He usually gets in around 10pm to 2am local time, depending on a lot of stuff.
Elf Shine	Okay, thank you so much, that clears everything up
Elf Ulan	Elf Crash, so do you mean we should recruit more elves except sending reports?
Crash Murphy	In talking with Flight Command, they are going to plan on Santa getting in later, as late as 4am, on Christmas morning on December 25th
Elf NotJack	So only an hour or two later?
Crash Murphy	That’s not saying he WILL. But that’s what they are planning on. They are trying to give the workshop as much time as they can
Crash Murphy	Yes, Elf NotJack. Santa won’t LET THEM plan any later than that.
Elf NotJack	That’s not bad!
Crash Murphy	Elf Ulan, yes, we want to get as many elves working before Santa launches.
Crash Murphy	No, it’s not bad, Elf Notjack. Of course, we don’t know what Santa is going to do. We just want to be ready just in case.
ElliottACDC	santa is the best
Crash Murphy	Santa has already told me he will NOT be delivering later than that.
Elf Ernest	Crash…is Santa getting pushback from certain elves about his delivery time?
Elf Ulan	Thank you, Elf Crash!
Crash Murphy	Um…pushback isn’t the right word. Santa is hearing all kinds of suggestions.
Crash Murphy	I think some worried elves are seeing that we’re 30 days out and the workshop is still 50 something days behind and they are concerned we’re not going to make it.
Elf Ernest	What do YOU think, Crash?
Crash Murphy	I think we’re going to make it.
Crash Murphy	Santa is amazing.
Crash Murphy	The North Pole is amazing.
Crash Murphy	We are going to figure this out.
Elf Ernest	So are you telling tracker elves not to worry?
Elf Ulan	Elf Crash, With the current workshop crisis and Santa’s sleigh getting faster every year, I wonder about small or quiet places without many Christmas lights like the kind of area where I live. Is there any risk Santa might pass over them too quickly?
Crash Murphy	I’m telling everyone not to worry. Let’s work together is what I’m saying.
Crash Murphy	Elf Ulan, this year is no different than any other in terms of getting to everyone. Christmas lights don’t necessarily help Santa deliver or stop him from doing so. Information is what is important.
ElliottACDC	so cute lol
Crash Murphy	That is why we track Santa for Santa.
Crash Murphy	We have missed some places in the past and we’re always prone to making mistakes
Crash Murphy	But Santa never misses anyone of purpose. It’s usually because he doesn’t know something he needs to know.
Crash Murphy	I would say that’s also one reason we’re testing out that Santa Map thing.
Crash Murphy	We will see if that helps Santa find people he might otherwise miss.
Elf Ernest	Oh, I didn’t know that was part of the purpose of it.
Elf Ulan	Thank you, Elf Crash! My country, most children don’t send a wish list for different reasons. In those cases, how does Santa decide what gift they should receive?
Crash Murphy	Yes, that is part of the reason for it. But the technology needs work. They have been working on it for years and my understanding is that is will be in development for many years to come.
Crash Murphy	Elf Ulan, that’s another excellent question.
Crash Murphy	Frankly, Santa guesses based upon what he knows about a person when they don’t send in a wish list.
Elf NotJack	But being on the map doesn’t necessarily mean Santa will visit right? (Due to other circumstances and stuff)
Crash Murphy	He tries very hard to be thoughtful.
Crash Murphy	Right, Elf NotJack. The map doesn’t guarantee anything. It’s there to help Santa. But it cannot overcome all circumstances.
Crash Murphy	The map, like everything else we do as trackers, is information.
Crash Murphy	They have big plans for it. But they are just getting started.
Elf Ernest	I’m noticing the map is getting a lot of believers on it, not just trackers.
Crash Murphy	Yes, and that’s okay. It’s all about aiding in delivery.
Crash Murphy	Santa is very excited about it. I am too.
Elf Ernest	Will you be using the map?
Crash Murphy	Well, kind of. When I follow Santa my sleigh is his backup vehicles
Crash Murphy	That means if something happens to his sleigh he can use mine
Crash Murphy	So that also means my sleigh needs all the tools that are on his sleigh
ElliottACDC	santa is the best tell him I said I love him
Crash Murphy	I did a test flight of my own with the new map system installed and it’s way cool.
Crash Murphy	When we pass over a house that someone has put on the map I little bell rings, the screen zooms in and we see that names of the people living there and their wish lists.
Crash Murphy	It’s beyond awesome.
Elf Ulan	Thank you, Elf Crash! (Thank you Santa!) I hope guessing things are okay to Santa and the elves at Santa’s Workshop this year.
Elf Ernest	wow, what an insight!
Elf NotJack	You should put drive throughs on it too!
Crash Murphy	Yes, the system is only going to get better and better – right down to showing where the stockings are hung inside the house
Elf Sugar Cookie	That is so cool!
Crash Murphy	Elf NotJack – yes! And a taco detector!
Elf NotJack	Yesssirrr!!!
Elf Ernest	Wow, that’s way cool. What else does the system show?
Crash Murphy	Well, one of my favorites is the pets database.
Elf Ernest	Oooh….what’s that?
Crash Murphy	It is a system that shows the name, picture and treats of any pet in the house. Even goldfish.
Crash Murphy	dogs are sometimes a little protective of their space
Crash Murphy	And Santa has to soothe them to calm them down and keep them quiet
Crash Murphy	So he carries dog treats with him
Elf Sugar Cookie	I love that!!
Crash Murphy	But by knowing their names and what they look like Santa can be better prepared in advance
Crash Murphy	Santa, as you know, is a real dog lover so he always feels bad when a dog doesn’t recognize him
Crash Murphy	He’s gifted with dogs but this system will make him even better.
Elf Ernest	Wow, this really interesting.
Elf Ernest	Are there any last minute questions for Elf Crash?
Crash Murphy	I hope I don’t get in trouble for sharing all this but I see no harm in talking about how Santa deals with the pets.
Elf Ulan	Thank you so much, Elf Crash! children don’t send a wish list for different reasons. In those cases, how does Santa decide what gift they should receive?
Elf Ernest	Is that one reason why so many believers ask for puppies on Christmas?
Elf Ulan	I mean, As Sector Lead, I always want to improve and support Santa’s mission better. Is there anything Elf Ulan could do more effectively or focus on this season?
Crash Murphy	Yes, Santa tries to give everyone something that they like. That’s why he asks for wish lists in the first place. But honestly a lot of people forget to give Santa a wish list.
Crash Murphy	So Santa has to do the best he can.
Crash Murphy	Elf Ulan, you are doing a fantastic job as Sector Lead. You are an exceptional elf. Just keep doing what you’re doing.
