49 Weeks Until Christmas

49 Weeks Until Christmas

Hi friends! There are now just 49 weeks until Christmas.

Christmas Countdown

My reindeer, Trixie, is from right here at the North Pole. She was born here. This is her home. It has been so fun having her home these past few weeks.

But I need to get ready to say goodbye for a season. She is leaving soon.

You see, Trixie is in love. She is getting married.

I know that sounds a little strange to say about a reindeer but I don’t know how to describe it. She’s a full grown reindeer and it is time for her to have a partner.

Trixie and the Mighty Mick want to have a family. So she is going with the Mighty Mick to where his family is from – in Canada.

That means they won’t really be that far away. But I’m uncertain for sure where it is and I don’t know how long she will be gone.

It’s a little sad for me because this time of year has been my time with her. She’s a very active girl and she works hard. But when she is home, in her own pasture and in her own barn, she is happy in a way I cannot describe. She’s relaxed. She’s happy. She’s spunky and fun and spontaneous.

I know she needs to go away at this time. I understand it. And I know things will not be the same when she comes back.

When she comes back Trixie and the Mighty Mick will need to have their own home together. I do not know yet where that will be.

I’m not going to ask before she goes. She is just going to go. I will wait to see what happens when they come back.

Traditionally, reindeer living at the North Pole who return to their homelands in January do not come back until sometime in the late summer or fall.

But both Trixie and the Mighty Mick are not regular reindeer. For the past several years Trixie has been a test flight reindeer. That means she has started working in June and stayed working all the way up until Christmas Eve.

The Mighty Mick has been working with Elf Big Sled Ted at the Kringle Reindeer Center, where they work with reindeer who has physical challenges or injuries. They help sick reindeer to get better.

The Mighty Mick has never taken time off from the Kringle Reindeer Center.

So, I do not know what they are doing. Or what the future will be like for them going forward.

I talked to Big Sled Ted about it. He’s very smart when it comes to reindeer.

Ted told me that reindeer are just like people. As they grow up they want to find a partner and have a family. It’s normal. He told me to be patient and that in time I will love what happens.

I do love Trixie and the Mighty Mick. They are great reindeer who do a lot of good.

But Ted told me I need to let them be reindeer.

So I am.

I just wish I knew where this story is going. And I hope and pray they are safe on their journey.
