Reindeer Everywhere
It is early August and it looks like early October in the Reindeer Operations Department.
The stables are full, the pens are full and the Kringle Reindeer Center is overwhelmed with the number of reindeer on hand.
Elf Charlie Muscle, who works the Reindeer Assignment Desk to find work for all the reindeer, says they have more reindeer than jobs for them to do.
Recruiting efforts to find an additional 5000 reindeer, as reported weeks ago, have been wildly successful.
Those reindeer, the ones added to the test flight teams, and those coming in early because of the reindeer wedding planned for August 29th have created plenty of work for reindeer handlers at the North Pole.
Today training began for 400 of the new reindeer recruits.
Their mission is clear: Santa ordered 3500 new sleighs to aid with Operation Airlift, the support effort of sleighs who work to transport presents and elves when Santa flies on Christmas Eve.
The new recruits do not have to be as fast or as experienced as those reindeer on Santa’s A-team. They just need to work hard, be safe and follow direction.
Still, it’s no small thing to teach a reindeer to fly. To get 5000 new reindeer up to flight standards by December 23rd could be something to see. It has never been done before.
