Blitzen Wins the Reindeer Games
In a day of robust competition coupled with blustery winter weather Blitzen pulled off a victory in the Reindeer Games by winning the only race he had left to run. Tied with four other reindeer heading into the day nobody predicted he would win.
Blitzen has won the Reindeer Games more times than any other reindeer. He’s one of the anchors on Santa’s team. Together with Donner, Blitzen is closest to Santa and the team of reindeer follow where Blitzen and Donner take them.
Today’s playoff consisted of two events – a 12-mile flight race from a place called Point Mistletoe high in the Polar Alps, located not far from the Reindeer Barn.
The second event was a ground-level pulling competition over 400 yards. The weather conditions were horrible, with high winds coupled with falling snow.
Blitzen dominated both events, challenged only by Donner. Rudolph, Vixen and Goldie were too small to excel under the conditions, although they did well. Donner was only slightly behind Blitzen, as we have seen many times in the past.
“Blitzen came to win today,” said reindeer trainer Elf Holly Holiday. “He just decided to take no prisoners. Some are surprised and they shouldn’t be. He’s the grand champion of champions.”
