Santa Urges Elves to Play Hard
Right after Christmas every year, when Santa has returned to the North Pole and Operation Merry Christmas has been declared a success, Santa will address the elves encouraging them to take time off and to “play hard”.

Playing hard is as important as working hard, Santa says.
But Santa has warned elves that we do not approach our playtime with the same kind of energy and organization as our work. Santa advocates for scheduling play time, have play time goals, and making sure play “gets done”.
Elves, like most people, will expend all their energy working hard and then have nothing left to play with. Santa says we cannot, as elves, do our hard work without our hard play.
It’s rare for Santa to remind us of play time. Customarily during Christmas in July we play a great deal.
But things are extraordinarily busy at the North Pole right now. Every department is already working like it’s October. Many Christmas in July events have been cancelled because senior elves have felt the demands of Operation Merry Christmas are more important than the events of Christmas in July.
Santa on Friday did something he rarely ever does: he sent a memo to all working departments. He reminded teams of his “play hard” policy and ordered all elves to take this weekend off.
For more information about Santa’s memo, the play hard policy, and how elves at the North Pole are reacting to Santa’s direction, please listen to the North Pole Radio News report in the player above.
