Donner Wins in a Thriller
Winter weather conditions at the North Pole added to the drama of a thrill race in the flight speed trials at the Annual Reindeer Games.

Donner won the event, but just barely. A very crowded field was right on his back as they came in within micro-seconds of each other. It was a classic photo finish.
The flight speed trials is a race of low altitude but high speed flying. The technology used to measure the competition requires flying no higher than 35 feet, which puts the reindeer relatively low to the ground. The event is especially popular with attending crowds because it puts them so close to the action.
Going a distance of 25 miles means the reindeer begin this game far away from the North Pole crowds. They must follow a strictly laid out course.
As they entered the finish line field nobody could tell who was winning because 9 separate reindeer all were lined up to finish first. They were Donner, Blitzen, Rudolph, Thor, Vixen, Goldie, Hercules, Dasher and Cupid.
Observation was obscured by blowing snow, driving by high winds. The judges needed more than 8 minutes of review to post the outcome.
