Sleigh Department Saves the Walkabout
The Thanksgiving Walkabout is one of the most famous traditional events at the North Pole each Thanksgiving. It is an event where Santa leads the villagers at the North Pole through the Christmas-lighted neighborhoods of the North Pole.
The purpose of the walkabout is to judge the annual Christmas lighting contest. Elves and their families spend weeks ahead of Thanksgiving festively decorating their homes with lights, Christmas trees and animations.
To win the Christmas lighting contest is considered a big honor. It takes some many years to even place in the contest, much less win it. Many plan their displays for months and very few ever win the contest twice.
This year’s Thanksgiving Walkabout with Santa has been threatened by the weather. The forecast for Thursday night does not look good and event organizers were contemplating cancelling or rescheduling the events.
But the North Pole Sleigh Department has stepped up and provided 15 glass-domed sleighs. The Reindeer Operations Department has likewise offered 45 teams of reindeer who will work in shifts to get the crowds of celebrants through the various neighborhoods to see all the lights.
While it is still uncertain just how visible all the homes and lights will be due to high winds there is great anticipation any way for the event.
We hear rumors that the North Pole Ladies Auxiliary is organizing hot cocoa, eggnog and cookies to be handed out during the event.
While it appears for now this great annual event will be saved it is unknown how the weather might affect the judging of the displays for the annual contest. Organizers are working on those details now.
We will keep you posted.
