North Pole News Visits North Pole Chat
Members of the North Pole News Department visited in North Pole chat to discuss the news business at the North Pole. The chat featured radio news elves Frank Myrrh and Crash Murphy. The North Pole News Department head elf, Elf Ed Zachary, also attended the chat.
They talked about their experiences in gathering news and sharing the news on the radio, on Official North Pole websites, and North Pole publications. This is a transcript of the chat:

| Elf Ernest | Crash, out of all the elves at the News Department and specifically on the radio, you’re the only one who didn’t go to school for that. |
| Crash Murphy | That’s true. |
| Elf Ernest | Yet, you’re the most famous voice of North Pole news. |
| Crash Murphy | Well, I wouldn’t say THAT |
| Elf Ernest | Well, you’re out there more talking to people. They hear you on a podcast, or on the radio, and you answer a lot of questions, especially when you do public speaking. A lot of people know you. |
| Crash Murphy | That’s just because Frank is afraid to show his ugly mug. |
| Elf Frank Myrrh | Hahaha – that is true. |
| Crash Murphy | He’s got a face made for radio, he likes to say |
| Elf Frank Myrrh | That’s true too |
| Elf Charlie-Bryn | I have a question, if an elf wants to go into media, how should they go about that? |
| Elf Ernest | You seem to have taken to the news business naturally |
| Elf Sugar Cookie | Thank you all for sharing the news with us- it is such a privilege to be able to read and hear about the North Pole! How do you decide what news is safe to be published on this website (shared with the world) and what news should stay within the North Pole? Does North Pole Security have a say in that? |

| Crash Murphy | Well, as the only one who didn’t go to school for this, I would say Go to school |
| Elf Ernest | Really, Crash? Why do you say that? |
| Elf chocolate snowflakes | How long does it take to become come a North Pole news team? |
| Crash Murphy | Well, I’m not really straight news. I do what I do to just answer questions. But I’m not a writer, like Frank or Mr. Zachary. I have to lean on them a lot for certain types of news duties. They are the real pros. |
| Elf Frank Myrrh | Elf Sugar Cookie’s question is a great one. |

| Elf Frank Myrrh | There is a process to the news. We get leads on stories and we do what reporters do. But there are editors. Elf Ed Zachary heads the news department so he’s the guy we have to get things past. |
| Elf Ulan | Elf Ed Zachary, about what questions did you receive from the world this year? |
| Crash Murphy | As far as becoming a news elf, we try new elves out all the time. We don’t always announce them. But Elf Westover is a good example of seeing talent at a young age and giving him a shot. Elf Ed Zachary has made him something of a development project. |
| Elf Ed Zachary | I’m not answering as many of the tough question letters as I used to. But I’ve got a guy in Norway who tells me the North Pole and Santa do not know anything about reindeer. |

| Elf Ernest | I would add to Frank’s comments a little. North Pole Security sees all the news and they will poke their head in now and then to question us. |

| Elf Ed Zachary | He’s a professor at some university there. He thinks we abuse reindeer by making them fly |

| Elf Frank Myrrh | Gator…you shouldn’t worry about that elf |
| Crash Murphy | Elf Agent X….doesn’t talk to me much |
| Elf Frank Myrrh | That’s a good thing! |
| Elf Ed Zachary | I think Crash plays a vital role in the news. |
| Elf Ernest | How do you mean, Elf Ed? |

| Elf Ed Zachary | He’s relatable. No question fazes him. People trust Crash because he’ll answer any question. |

| Elf Ernest | His reputation grew from answering tough questions from skeptics or non-belivers. |
| Elf Ed Zachary | I’m the reason people like Crash. He’s nice, I’m not. |
| Elf Ernest | Now don’t anyone believe that! |
| Elf Ernest | Elf Ed Zachary is a teddy bear |

| Elf Ernest | What I mean is that he’s a great elf who has a tough job. |
| Elf Ernest | I don’t think I could answer all the hard questions that Mr. Zachary does |
| Elf Ernest | I think the dynamic of Crash and Elf Ed Zachary is necessary in the north pole news business. They both serve a role. |
| Elf Ernest | And Frank does too. Frank is the anchor. |
| Elf Ernest | Frank’s role is to ask questions as much as it is to answer them. I think these three elves do a great job |

| Crash Murphy | I don’t think we can be like regular news out there. Santa is different. |
| Elf Ernest | First of all, Elf Andri – if you want to be a media elf you can do what Elf Westover did. |
| Elf Andri | I’m newer, so I’m not sure what he did. could someone elaborate? |
| Elf Ed Zachary | Applying for the job when they come up is a good idea. But sometimes we don’t post jobs. Like I’m looking for a good elf to write about Christmas foods |
| Crash Murphy | Elf Westover just came to me at SantaTrackers.net and said, “Hey, I have this channel at YouTube”. So I looked at it, liked it, and now he’s learning the news business. The kid has a great future I think. He’s awesome. |

| Elf Ernest | What Elf Ed Zachary just said is important. Some jobs don’t get posted. You’re here, you’re talking to news elves, they are getting to know you….the elves jobs go to people they know. |

| Elf Andri | what if i don’t have any existing channel or anything comparable? that seems to be a big part of how westover got his job. |

| Crash Murphy | Yes, Elf Andri, that’s one way. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. |
| Elf Frank Myrrh | Elf Crash was an elf working as a tape dispenser technician in the Wrapping Department. Before that he worked in other departments at the North Pole |
| Elf Frank Myrrh | Long story short, he volunteered to be part of a team of elves who fly in sleighs at high speeds on Christmas Eve doing various tasks for Santa and North Pole Flight Command. |

| Elf Frank Myrrh | At one point, I think Elf Ernest sent a job posting out to that team – those sleigh elves – trying to find someone for a “special project” in the news department. |

| Elf Frank Myrrh | The big requirement was to be able to speak while in those high speed sleighs. |
| Elf Frank Myrrh | Crash responded. |
| Elf Frank Myrrh | It was Elf Ernest’s idea to get one of those elves to file a radio news report behind Santa |
| Crash Murphy | I was one of the only elves who could do it without throwing up |
| Elf Andri | wow, elf crash!! you are so inspiring! i love seeing you be where you are now, it gives me hope that i can get up there one day, too! |
| Elf Frank Myrrh | That’s right. Not only was Elf Crash able to do it, he wanted to do it. |
| Elf Frank Myrrh | So I started interviewing him on the radio while he was in the sleigh behind Santa |
| Elf Frank Myrrh | And the rest is history. |
