Messages and Mail for Santa
North Pole Chat was centered around Elf Hugo, postmaster at the North Pole Post Office who shared with us some details about how mail and messages get to Santa Claus. Among other things Elf Hugo explained the process of how a wish list gets to Santa and he does with it. He talked about the size of the North Pole Post Office and how many elves work there.
He also talked a bit about how Santa and Mrs. Claus also send in wish lists and how they give gifts to each other. Here is how that entire conversation unfolded:

| Elf Hugo | Yes, wishlists are plentiful but they come in and they help other things move along, like Santa’s workshop. |
| Elf Ernest | How does that work? Does Santa see the wish lists first or does the Workshop? |

| Elf Hugo | The last numbers I saw were from Thursday, and we took in 78,996,473 messages that day for Santa, but they were not all wishlists |

| Elf Hugo | Stocking mail is NOT active. Santa does not activate it until Christmas Eve, if he activates it at all. This year we hope he does NOT activate it. |

| Elf Hugo | Santa has several of his office staff with him. They have computers with them. They organize the wishlists for Santa as they come in and he looks at them while on breaks and stuff. Santa is working about 18 hours a day but he doesn’t spend all that time talking to children |

| Elf Hugo | Santa likes to share the drawings. Especially with people who are lonely or for sick children. He spreads them around because everyone loves them. |
| Elf Hugo | Of course I make a wish list for Santa. I give it to him on Halloween every year. That’s my tradition |
| Elf Ulan | Elf Hugo, is it difficult to use stocking mail from Sector 1? |
| Elf Hugo | Stocking mail is not perfect technology. It relies on a lot of things that are not consistent every where. It’s very advances stuff. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. |
| Elf Hugo | Parts of Sector 1 are hard for Stocking Mail. But not Japan. Japan is very good for stocking mail usually. |
| Elf Hugo | Contrary to popular belief, stocking mail does not involve sending elves to your stocking |

| Elf Ernest | We know that Santa is Santa for Santa. Does that mean Santa sends himself a wishlist too? |

| Elf Hugo | And she does because she has told me to send it directly to her when it comes in and I have to do what Mrs. Claus says, right? |

| Elf Hugo | Last year Santa got a new meat thermometer for Christmas for his BBQ. Mrs. Claus didn’t know anything about it. She protested and said she never knew and Santa said, “Well, it was on my list!” He didn’t tell her he put it on his list just as he was getting into the sleigh. |

My grandma had just died december 1 of this year and her favorite holiday was Christmas and that’s why its also mine because of her she would always go all out for Christmas and always wear Christmas things so I am wearing her christmas earrings in honor of her and for Christmas.
